Choreographing Humor? is a three-day performance course that is based on the artistic practices and methods of Mean Time Between Failures duo. Together we will work with the topic of humor in performance as a mysterious, exciting and thought-provoking puzzle.

Kolmen päivän aikana käymme läpi erilaisia kehollisia ja esityksellisiä menetelmiä, joidentavoitteena on lähestyä kysymyksiä, kuten: kuinka huumoria syntyy esiintymistilanteessa?mitä huumori tekee esiintyjän ja yleisön keholle? mitkä ovat huumorin poliittiset ulottuvuudet? miksi epäonnistuminen johtaa usein jännittävimpiin löytöihin huumorista? Ja mikä tärkeintä, voidaanko huumoria koreografioida?
During the three days we will go through a variety of body-based practices that aim to approach questions such as: How humor is generated in a performance situation? What does humor do to the body of a performer and of an audience member? What are the political and transformative dimensions of humor? Why does failure in performance often lead to the most exciting discoveries about humor? And most importantly, can humor be choreographed?
Kurssi sopii kaikille, jotka ovat kiinnostuneita esiintymisestä tai fyysisestä komediasta ja haluavat tuoda lisää naurua ja huumoria elämään tai esiintymiseen. Kurssille ovat tervetulleita sekä ammattilaiset että ei-ammattilaiset, joilla on jo aikaisempaa kokemusta esiintymisestä.
The course is suitable for anyone who is interested in performance or physical comedy and wants to bring laughter and humor to the front of their practice and interests.

Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) on helsinkiläinen kokeellinen tanssi- ja esitystaiteen kollektiivi. Sen perustivat vuonna 2019 taiteilijat Dash Che ja Suvi Tuominen. MTBF toimii tanssin, performanssitaiteen ja käsitetaiteen risteyksessä. Heidän teoksensa yhdistävät huumoria, provokaatiota, absurdiutta ja fyysisyyttä. He ovat työskennelleet useiden esittävien taiteiden instituutioiden ja festivaalien kanssa sekä luoneet esityksiä erilaisille tanssi- ja performanssitaiteen instituutioille, kuten Zodiak – Uuden tanssin keskukselle, Tanzhaus Zürich -residenssiin, STUK Leuven -residenssiin, Ehkä – residenssiin, Santo Tirson nykykuvanveiston museoon ja festivaaleille, kuten New Performance Turku Biennale, Riika Performance Art -festivaali, MIR – performanssifestivaali Ateena ja Pas Si Fragile -performanssifestivaali Brysseli.

Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is a Helsinki-based experimental dance and performance art collective. It was founded in the year 2019 by artists Dash Che and Suvi Tuominen. MTBF works at the intersection of dance, performance art and conceptual art. Their works bring together humor, provocation, absurdity and physicality. They have worked with several performing arts institutions and festivals both in Finland and abroad. We have created performances for different dance and performance art institutions such as Zodiak – Center for New Dance, Tanzhaus Zürich residency, STUK Leuven residency, Contemporary Art Space Kutomo, Santo Tirso museum of Contemporary Sculpture, and festivals such as New Performance Turku biennale, Riga Performance Art festival, MIR – performance festival Athens and Pas Si Fragile – performance festival Brussels.
