Todellisuuden Tutkimuskeskus jatkaa inspiroivaa yhteistyötään Santarcangelo Festivalin kanssa residenssillä, joka tarjoaa tilan ja aikaa yhdelle TTK:n taiteilijalle syventyä omaan taiteelliseen tutkimukseensa ja pohtia sen yhteyttä mahdottomuuden ja unelmoinnin teemoihin.
Reality Research Center continues its inspiring collaboration with Santarcangelo Festival with a residency that provides space and time for one RRC artist to revisit their own artistic research and inquire into how it relates to the notions of impossibility and dreaming.
Tämä residenssiyhteistyö jatkaa TTK:n Mahdottoman esityksen residenssin perinnettä uudessa muodossa. Yhteistyön tavoite on tutkia taiteellisen tutkimuksen, mahdottomuuden ja unelmoimisen suhdetta moninaisissa paikallisuuksissa.
This collaboration continues RRC’s legacy of the Impossible Performance Residency in a new format. Its aim is to explore the relationship between artistic research, impossibility and dreaming in diverse localities.
Matilda Aaltonen on valittu vuoden 2025 residenssitaiteilijaksi avoimessa haussa. Residenssi tapahtuu Santarcangelo di Romagnassa 28.10.-7.11.2025.
We are excited to announce that Matilda Aaltonen has been selected through our open call to take part in this artistic research residency, which will take place from October 28 to November 7, 2025, in Santarcangelo di Romagna.
Matildan projekti, joka tutkii kettujen kanssa esiintymistä ja läsnäoloa ihmis- ja kettunäkökulmista, keskustelee kiinnostavasti Santarcangelo festivaalin performatiivisuuden, ekologian ja lajienvälisten suhteen tutkimisen jatkumon kanssa. Aaltosen tutkimus heijastelee vahvasti TTK:n visiota, jossa taide avaa todellisuuden kirjon mahdottomuuden kanssa viipymisen ja unelmoinnin kautta. Matildan omin sanoin:
Matilda’s project—an exploration of performing with foxes and examining how presence is experienced in these encounters — speaks powerfully to Santarcangelo’s ongoing inquiry into expanded notions of performativity, ecology, and interspecies relations. Her artistic research embodies RRC’s vision of art opening the spectrum of reality through dreaming and staying with impossibility. In Matilda’s own words:

Matilda Aaltonen on Helsingissä asuva tanssija, koreografi ja tutkija, joka työskentelee tanssin ja esitystaiteen risteyskohdassa. Hänen teoksensa tutkivat ruumiillisuutta ja ekologiaa, ihmiseläimyyttä, suhdettamme muihin eläimiin ja lajienvälistä vuorovaikutusta. Aaltosen töitä on esitetty mm. Zodiak – Uuden tanssin keskuksessa, HAM:ssa, Todellisuuden tutkimuskeskuksessa, Barker-teatterissa, Liikeellä Marraskuussa-festivaalilla ja Mäntän Kuvataideviikoilla.
Matilda Aaltonen (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, and researcher based in Helsinki, working in the fields of dance and performance art. In her work, Aaltonen explores corporeality and ecology, human animality, the relationships between humans and other animals, and the possibilities of interspecies collaboration. Aaltonen’s works have been presented at venues such as Zodiak – Center for New Dance, HAM Helsinki Art Museum, Reality Research Center, Barker Theatre, the Moving in November Festival, and Mänttä Art Festival.
Vuosina 2020-2023 Aaltonen työskenteli kahdessa tiedettä ja taidetta yhdistävässä tutkimushankkeessa. Hankkeet tutkivat eläinten kertomisen tapoja ja millä tavoin heidän äänensä voisivat päästä esiin taiteessa. Aaltonen on tanssitaiteen maisteri ja aloitti elokuussa 2025 taiteellisen tutkimuksen väitöstutkijana Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulussa.
Between 2020 and 2023, her artistic work was carried out as part of two research projects combining science and art. These projects investigated how animals can be represented and how their voices can be heard in artistic contexts. Aaltonen holds a Master’s Degree in Arts (Dance). In August 2025, she started doctoral studies in artistic research at the University of the Arts Helsinki Theatre Academy.
